Background
Describe the scenarios in which you currently seek out and watch trailers.
- He doesn’t seek out trailers now
- Sometime ago he would watch trailers through itunes
- So now when he does get it he will see it from Reddit and watch it on YouTube
- He typically tries to avoid trailers
Where do you currently watch trailers?
What do you do when you have planned to go see a movie, but you are not sure of which one?
How do you research movies?
- He would go to rotten tomatoes and see which one had the highest score and then go see that one
- He tries to go into movies blind most of the time
What websites would you use?
- Rotten Tomatoes
- If not that then some other aggregator of movie reviews
What theaters would you want to go to?
- It doesn’t really matter
- Location is really the biggest factor
Would you use the theater’s website?
- Yeah... but he would google the theater’s showtimes and then go to whatever link came up first and go to that, which he would assume would be the theater’s website
Have you gone to a high-end or trendy theater? Describe the experience of planning that trip.
Nitehawk
Desktop:
From the homepage either navigate to “the Batman” or “the Lost City” and start the trailer.
- Noticed that it was a youtube embed
- Made the trailer full screen right away
- Looked up the auto play embed functionality
How did that process feel?
- said that he “lucked out” because the movie was right there and he had to scroll down
- rather than having to use a search bar... which made it easy
- Not having to use the search bar was easier
- A couple of clicks was all it took
What would you want to change about that process (if anything)?
- He noticed the X formatting and would change that since it looks like a close out icon
- He might make it so that the images was there and that the trailer icon was always showing in the corner and not have to voice over
- But for him personally that wouldn’t have really made it any easier
What did you think about the way the trailer was displayed on the screen?
- “Seemed normal”
- If it autoplayed maybe that would be better
- “The less steps the better”
- It would be optimal rather than hitting play twice
- Scaled down the browser window to the smaller size to see it at mobile size
- Details is there to click on but you can’t click the trailer watch button anymore
- You have to click on the trailer in the details page
- Noticed the the overlay functionality was gone
Would you rather have looked up the trailer on a separate website?
Mobile:
From the homepage either navigate to “the Batman” or “the Lost City” and start the trailer.
How did that process feel compared to the desktop site?
- When you click on the title you have to scroll down to the trailer
- He noticed one of the actors in the movie
- He said that he would like having that information when he could
- He said that he would still want the trailer available on the first page
- He said that he thinks people will miss the trailer having it lower down in the movie page
What would you want to change about that process (if anything)?
- He would put the ability to get to the trailer from the home page
What did you think about the way the trailer was displayed on the screen?
- The way that it played on the trailer
- He noticed that when he turned his phone on it’s side the trailer embed was gone and you had to click a button to go to the trailer
Would you rather have looked up the trailer on a separate website vs. the mobile version?
- He said that he would be more likely to watch it in the youtube app
- He had trouble getting the video to play in full screen

From the homepage either navigate to “the Batman” or “the Lost City” and start the trailer.
- Scrolled down right off the bat then came back up
- Noticed that they have movie showtimes but didn’t want to have to go through that so he went to now playing
- He noticed that the youtube embed was really stretched out
How did that process feel?
- It had the extra step of going through the now playing
- Then a second later noticed that now playing was also on the homepage
- “This website seems more dated than the first one”
- There are multiple ways to get to the same spot
- “But I liked it when there was more information about the movie” at a glance
- Didn’t like the carousel
- “For whatever reason the banner crosses the whole page but the carousel only goes a certain distance”
- Just want the movies to be bigger
- “THIS IS CUTOFF, THIS IS HORRIBLE”
What would you want to change about that process (if anything)?
- “I would properly sized images in here first”
- “When you go to the now playing the title cards are still too small”
- He noted that the web site still says that it was made in 2017
- “It should automatically ask for your location“
- “There is too much white space and no information” when you go to a now playing for a theater
What did you think about the way the trailer was displayed on the screen?
- The wide stretch embed... is fine I guess
Would you rather have looked up the trailer on a separate website?
