Describe the scenarios in which you currently seek out and watch trailers.
- Most often watches trailers as they come up on the facebook feed
- If she was to seek out a trailer she would go to YouTube
Where do you currently watch trailers?
What do you do when you have planned to go see a movie, but you are not sure of which one?
How do you research movies?
- She would put into google what cinema she wanted to go to and see what movies were playing there
What websites would you use?
What theaters would you want to go to?
Would you use the theater’s website?
- “Google brings things up inside it’s own tab and then you wouldn’t have to go to the cinema’s website”
Have you gone to a high-end or trendy theater? Describe the experience of planning that trip.
- Once for her friends birthday she went to a dine in theater with comfy seats
Nitehawk
Desktop:
From the homepage either navigate to “the Batman” or “the Lost City” and start the trailer.
How did that process feel?
- The first thing that she did was look for a search bar, because she would have typed in the movie
- But when she didn’t see that she started scrolling and found it
- She thought that the trailer button on the title card was very easy and intuitive
What would you want to change about that process (if anything)?
- She would like to add a search bar to find the movie
- She also mentioned a list of everything that was playing that she could look through at a glance without needing to scroll
- She thought it would make sense to have a tab that says now playing or buy now to drop down a list
What did you think about the way the trailer was displayed on the screen?
- She liked that it didn’t automatically go full screen
- It let her still look around at the other stuff
- After probing about whether she would want to see the trailer and browse at the same time she liked that it was possible to still see the context but wanted her focus on the trailer
Would you rather have looked up the trailer on a separate website?
- “If I was trying to decide whether I wanted to go see a movie I would look it up on another site, but if I was sure I wanted to see a movie but didn’t know which one I would do it like this.”
Mobile:
From the homepage either navigate to “the Batman” or “the Lost City” and start the trailer.
- Scrolled like before and clicked the title card
- “And now I have to scroll down to the trailer: (didn’t seem to mind at all)
How did that process feel compared to the desktop site?
- “I liked how the desktop version trailer came up so quickly and easily”
- She didn’t want to have to scroll down to find the trailer
- “I would expect the trailer to be near the top”
What would you want to change about that process (if anything)?
- “I don’t know that I would change anything“
- She decided that it makes sense that the trailer was down lower on the page because then she didn’t have to follow too many links
What did you think about the way the trailer was displayed on the screen?
- She liked the desktop experience more where it pops up and out and grays out the screen
- “But it is easy enough to tap the full screen button”
Would you rather have looked up the trailer on a separate website vs. the mobile version?
Cinepolis
Desktop:
From the homepage either navigate to “the Batman” or “the Lost City” and start the trailer.
How did that process feel?
- Felt fine
- Scrolling dow was even easier on this one because she could see four movies at a glance which was easier than having to look at just 2 and 2 and scroll
What would you want to change about that process (if anything)?
- She liked the Nitehawk version more
- It was nice to have an x to close out the trailer
- Now I had to look for that pause button to stop the trailer
What did you think about the way the trailer was displayed on the screen?
- Didn’t have any strong feelings about it
- It is easy once you click on the picture to just hit play
- Size of the trailer window didn’t really matter to her
Would you rather have looked up the trailer on a separate website?
Mobile:
From the homepage either navigate to “the Batman” or “the Lost City” and start the trailer.
- Had a little trouble with the starting pop ups
How did that process feel compared to the desktop site?
- It was easier on the desk top because they show up one at a time
- She would like to see more at a glance
What would you want to change about that process (if anything)?
- View more than one
- She liked being able to click on the title card to navigate to a page about the movie
- Liked that the trailer was right there when she clicked on the movie title card
What did you think about the way the trailer was displayed on the screen?
- “It definitely feels like the most constrained one (gestured to it being small)”
- Would open up to full screen and rotate her phone because of that
- She said “If I felt more invested in the movie I would open it full screen, but otherwise I wouldn’t open it”
Would you rather have looked up the trailer on a separate website vs. the mobile version?
